smurfs

colony of small blue humanoids who live in mushroom-shaped houses in the forest. The Smurfs was first created and introduced as a series of comic characters by the Belgian comics artist Peyo (pen name of Pierre Culliford) in 1958, where they were known as Les Schtroumpfs. There are more than one hundred Smurf characters, and their names are based on adjectives that emphasize their characteristics, such as “Jokey Smurf”, who likes to play practical jokes on his fellow smurfs. “Smurfette” was the first female Smurf to be introduced in the series. The Smurfs wear Phrygian caps, which came to represent freedom during the modern era.

The word “Smurf” is the original Dutch translation of the French “Schtroumpf”, which, according to Peyo, is a word invented during a meal with fellow cartoonist André Franquin, when he could not remember the word salt.[3]

The Smurfs franchise began as a comic and expanded into advertising, films, TV series, ice capades, video games, theme parks, and dolls.

At the time he came up with the idea for the Smurfs, Peyo was the creator, artist, and writer of the Franco-Belgian comics series titled Johan et Pirlouit (translated to English as Johan and Peewit), set in Europe during the Middle Ages and including elements of sword-and-sorcery. Johan serves as a brave young page to the king, and Pirlouit (pronounced Peer-loo-ee) functions as his faithful, if boastful and cheating, midget sidekick. In 1958, Spirou magazine started to publish the Johan et Pirlouit story La Flûte à six trous (“The Flute with Six Holes”). The adventure involved them recovering a magic flute, which required some sorcery by the wizard Homnibus. In this manner, they met a tiny, blue-skinned humanoid in white clothing, followed by his numerous peers who looked just like him, with an elderly leader who wore red clothing and had a white beard. Their first full appearance was published in Spirou on October 23, 1958. The characters proved to be a huge success, and the first independent Smurf stories appeared in Spirou in 1959, together with the first merchandising. The Smurfs shared more adventures with Johan and Pirlouit, got their own series and all subsequent publications of the original story were retitled La Flûte à six Schtroumpfs (also the title of the movie version of the story).

Schtroumpf is pronounced like the German word “Strumpf” meaning “sock”. However, according to Peyo, original author of the original Smurfs comic strip, the original term and the accompanying language of the Smurfs came during a meal he was having with his colleague and friend André Franquin at the Belgian Coast. Having momentarily forgotten the word “salt”, Peyo asked him (in French) to pass the schtroumpf. Franquin jokingly replied: “Here’s the Schtroumpf—when you are done schtroumpfing, schtroumpf it back…” and the two spent the rest of that weekend speaking in “schtroumpf language”.The name was later translated into Dutch as Smurf, which was adopted in English.

roll of thunder hear my cry

I would like to represent my Essay about very famous writer Mildred D. Taylor who was born in Jackson, Mississippi. She didn’t lived there for long. She moved to Toledo in Ohio, where she spent most of her childhood. Now She and her daughter lives in Colorado. This wonderful author showed her views on the slavery and and the period of the racism. She was trying to express her memories from the stories of her childhood that has been passed on.
One of her most famous book (which i think in my opinion shown people how in 1930’s black people where treated) is Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry.

1. In this paragraph I would like to show you the advantages and disadvantages that Cassie and her brothers have to go though when black folks had to live through. In this book it shows the way that a girl called Cassie lives through a life of racism in the 1930’s. On her way to school a white school bus driver likes to entertain the passengers so he splashes Cassie and her brothers with mud. This shows discrimination because two races black, white and race go to separate schools(mixed race children went to the black school)One day with their friend’s, they dug a hole in the road and ran back to school they hid the shovels in a shed, after school the bus driver saw the three children, he spam his engine at full speed and into the hole in road which got the bus stuck.

2. In this paragraph I will show you the places that have racism in that takes place in the Barnett’s store were a lady and a child push in to the line and get served first, like Cassie and her brother didn’t even exist when Cassie lost her temper and shouts at Mr Barnett for taking an hour to serve them then Mr Barnett shouts “whose little nigger are you”. This shows discrimination because of two things, one Mr Barnett says “whose” which he meant by Cassie too be a possession of some one. Two he said something offensive to Cassie by saying little nigger.

3.Jobs that Cassie and her family are sharecropping for a white landowner by renting a house food. their mother works as a teacher at a black school and their father far away builds a rail way. Some times they have to steal some crops

4. The schools have been segregated and if your thinking of mix race then they went to the black school. Black folks are so used of being called nigger that they even call them selves that which means that they get called that allot. Some times the white give books that are soggy, ripped, old or not cared about. One time when they got new books, (which they weren’t obviously)Cassie’s little brother “little man” saw what was at the back of the book he throw it on to the floor.

5.One day T.J showed them a cool looking gun in a white man store. T.J thought that the gun was for sale but no it was for protection against black kind. you can see that this man is raciest.

In my essay I wanted to show that this was not a civil rights towards African American’s.I think this period was very cruel and I think no one should be treated that way no matter of the colors of there skin because people have free will to do what ever the want to do in this country.
We are all same children of God and we should treat our self the same way like we want to be treated the same way you want to be.

home work of thunder hear my cry

In this intro I will be talking about the novel written by Mildred.D Taylor in 1976. The novel was written at a time when hard working depressed black men ,women and children lived in a place called Jackson, Mississippi ,United State Of America but set in 1976 after slavery. Mildred is actually from Jackson in Mississippi. The novels is followed by a nine year old girl called Cassie and her family “The Logans” and every time she and her three brothers go to school. on the way they get splashed by a white school bus and called names like “mud eater” because they are black. Which shows discrimination, first is that they get splashed for entertainment, second the schools race is separated, third is that Cassie and her brothers get called “mud eaters” and there are more inappropriate word which children must not say to black raced people plus it is illegal (unless your black) later in the book.

p.s keep me back if you want me to improve on this piece of work.

Many thanks.

hercules and labor 3 and sneak peak of labor 4

You’d think it would have been easy for a hero like Hercules to go shoot a deer and bring it back to Eurystheus, but a few problems made things complicated. This was a special deer, because it had golden horns and hoofs of bronze. Not only that, the deer was sacred to the goddess of hunting and the moon, Artemis; she was Artemis’s special pet. That meant that Hercules could neither kill the deer nor hurt her. He couldn’t risk getting Artemis angry at him; he was already in enough trouble with Hera.Hercules set out on this adventure, and he hunted the deer for a whole year.

At last, when the deer had become weary with the chase, she looked for a place to rest on a mountain called Artemisius, and then made her way to the river Ladon. Realising that the deer was about to get away, Hercules shot her just as she was about to cross the stream. He caught the deer, put her on his shoulders and turned back to Mycenae. As Hercules hurried on his way, he was met by Artemis and Apollo.Artemis was very angry because Hercules tried to kill her sacred animal. She was about to take the deer away from Hercules, and surely she would have punished him, but Hercules told her the truth. He said that he had to obey the oracle and do the labors Eurystheus had given him. artemis let go of her anger and healed the deer’s wound. Hercules carried it alive to Mycenae.

The next labor is the Erymanthian boar.
This one was called the Erymanthian boar, because it lived on a mountain called Erymanthus. Every day the boar would come crashing down from his lair on the mountain, attacking men and animals all over the countryside, gouging them with its tusks, and destroying everything in its path.

On his way to hunt the boar, Hercules stopped to visit his friend Pholus, who was a centaur and lived in a cave near Mount Erymanthus. Everyone knows that centaur is a human from his head to his waist, and a horse for the rest of his body and his legs. Hercules was hungry and thirsty, so the kindly centaur cooked Hercules some meat in the fireplace, while he himself ate his meat raw. On his way to hunt the boar, Hercules stopped to visit his friend Pholus, who was a centaur and lived in a cave near Mount Erymanthus. Everyone knows that centaur is a human from his head to his waist, and horse for the rest of his body. When Hercules asked for wine, Pholus said that he was afraid to open the wine jar, because it belonged to all the centaurs in common. But Hercules said not to worry, and opened it himself and drank until he was absolutely drunk and said” thank for the food and wine it is perfect, where did you get it from”. The centaur said” I got it from Dionysus obviously who else”. Hercules said “good by my friend” and went of to hunt the bull.

just a sneak peak

hercules and the second labour the hydra

Hercules set off to hunt the nine-headed menace, but he did not go alone. His trusty nephew, Iolaus, was by his side. Iolaus, who shared many adventures with Hercules, accompanied him on many of the twelve labors. Legend has it that Iolaus won a victory in chariot racing at the Olympics and he is often depicted as Hercules’ charioteer. So, the pair drove to Lerna and by the springs of Amymone, they discovered the lair of the loathsome hydra.(the hydra’s middle head can spit fire at its enemy plus when you chop of one of the heads then two more grow)
First, Hercules lured the coily creature from the safety of its den by shooting flaming arrows at it. Once the hydra emerged, Hercules seized it. The monster was not so easily overcome, though, for it wound one of its coils around Hercules’ foot and made it impossible for the hero to escape. With his club, Hercules attacked the many heads of the hydra, but as soon as he smashed one head, two more would burst forth in its place! To make matters worse, the hydra had a friend of its own: a huge crab began biting the trapped foot of Hercules. Quickly disposing of this nuisance, most likely with a swift bash of his club, Hercules called on Iolaus to help him out of this tricky situation.

Each time Hercules bashed one of the hydra’s heads, Iolaus held a torch to the headless tendons of the neck. The flames prevented the growth of replacement heads, and finally, Hercules had the better of the beast. Once he had removed and destroyed the eight mortal heads, Hercules chopped off the ninth, immortal head. This he buried at the side of the road leading from Lerna to Elaeus, and for good measure, he covered it with a heavy rock. As for the rest of the hapless hydra, Hercules slit open the corpse and dipped his arrows in the venomous blood.

Eurystheus was not impressed with Hercules’ feat, however. He said that since Iolaus had helped his uncle, this labor should not count as one of the ten. This technicality didn’t seem to matter much to anyone else: the ancient authors still give Hercules all of the credit. Even so, Pausanias did not think that this labor was as fantastic as the myths made it out to be: to him, the fearsome hydra was just, well, a big water snake.
a sneak peak of the third labor:You’d think it would have been easy for a hero like Hercules to go shoot a deer and bring it back to Eurystheus, but a few problems made things complicated. This was a special deer, because it had golden horns and hoofs of bronze. Not only that, the deer was sacred to the goddess of hunting and the moon, Diana; she was Diana’s special pet. That meant that Hercules could neither kill the deer nor hurt her. He couldn’t risk getting Diana angry at him; he was already in enough trouble with Hera.

first labour of Hercules…the Nemean Lion

Hercules had to do the twelve labours as a punishment by King Eurystheus for Hercules killed Eurystheuses beautiful daughter and his own kids(bet you don’t know why…he killed his family he had blood rage in him self that he can not control). His first labour was to kill and bring the Nemean Lion fur but don’t be fooled it’s mane is so thick it can break swords and arrows. It is said the monster terrorised villages in the mountains. Hercules went of to the mountains and then saw the giant lion in it’s flesh and skin. It strait away went for the weapon to disarm the young man but Hercules went to grab the jaws of the mighty beast and put the upper jaw to the left and the bottom jaw to the right ripped out the flesh of it and ate it at the end, made a cape of it as defence and as a symbol

how the prehistoric creatures came to life part one

The first ever life was cells called Archaea which can form into sponge which when you cut half of it then squeeze in water then wait a couple of days it with come back new and fresh. Then it evolved into a ten inch feather looking thing that I forgot, stuck to the ground feeding on the suns rays. Which got fossilised by a super volcano’s ashes that covered them heavily in Canada but in the other parts of the world they survived. After evolving into some thing that moved the same speed as the star fish we know from today. they could’t eat yet because they haven’t evolved mouths and some living seaweed learnt how to interact sexually to each other to make more of the population grow. Then it has come the predator and prey mouths have evolved like the sea scorpion which was a very exiting thing for scientists or archaeologist. After the that it was the Devonian era which means that Dunkleosteus so let me tell about him. Dunkleosteus is an extinct genus of arthrodire placoderm fish that existed during the Late Devonian period, about 380–360 million years ago. Some of the species, such as D. terrelli, D. marsaisi, and D. magnificus, are among the largest arthrodire placoderms ever to have lived.
The largest species, D. terrelli, measuring up to 10 m (33 ft)and weighing 3.6 t (4.0 short tons), was a hypercarnivorous apex predator. Few other placoderms, save, perhaps, its contemporary Titanichthys, rivaled Dunkleosteus in size.
Dunkleosteus is a pachyosteomorph arthrodire originally placed in the family Dinichthyidae, a family composed mostly of large, carnivorous arthrodires like Gorgonichthys. Anderson (2009) suggests, because of its primitive jaw structure, Dunkleosteus should be placed outside the family Dinichthyidae, perhaps close to the base of the clade Pachyosteomorpha, near Eastmanosteus. Carr and Hlavin (2010) resurrect Dunkleosteidae and place Dunkleosteus, Eastmanosteus, and a few other genera from Dinichthyidae within it. (Dinichthyidae, in turn, is made into a monospecific family).
New studies have revealed several features in both its food and biomechanics, as well as its ecology and physiology. Placodermi first appeared in the Silurian, and the group became extinct during the transition from the Devonian to the Carboniferous, leaving no descendants. The class persisted in the fossil record for at least 70 million years, in comparison to the 400-million-year-long history of sharks and now lets move on. The Paleozoic Era, which ran from about 542 million years ago to 251 million years ago, was a time of great change on Earth. The era began with the breakup of one supercontinent and the formation of another. Plants became widespread. And the first vertebrate animals colonized land. The Paleozoic began with the Cambrian Period, 53 million years best known for ushering in an explosion of life on Earth. This “Cambrian explosion” included the evolution of arthropods (ancestors of today’s insects and crustaceans) and chordates (animals with rudimentary spinal cords). After the Paleozoic era is the Triassic which is where the dinosaurs kick and the the very first dinosaur was Plateosaurus(a plant eater) which was the cousin of the sauropods like argentinosaurs(the largest dinosaur in the world).

painting for Ms Lucking

I think there is like something form the prehistoric Era which I imagine of like nine big fins with it’s spikes coming from it’s spine coming out to make a cyclone and earth quacks. A croc’s mouth with one hundred and forty cone teeth, the size of a persons head green and black eye’s like a dragon. As big as the blue whale, living in the atlantic ocean feasting on big prey as such as big fat juicy men and women but not skinny to the bone! And some sailors getting stuck in the cyclones and earth quacks of it’s might tearing the masts of the ships and people getting snatched of boards and drowned to death but unfortunately eaten, what crewel way to die. Smash and bash with a crack and but lack of fact some survived against this terra. They called it the Spikeosaurs because of it’s very sharp spine that can cut through any ship even the titanic if it was really built and speaking of titanic it didn’t crash in too the ice burg it was spikeosuaurs cutting through the middle.

greek mythology Gods

The Titan lord Kronos is now over throned and thrown to the Tartarus with other male Titans. All the other female Titans and Zeus made other gods like apollo and artemis. Then when all the gods were made like Athena came from Zeus’s head got split by Hephaestus axe and she started crying the war cry in full greek battle armour but dose’t have to be from the head. Then Gaia sent an army of monsters like the minotaurs or the sisters of medusa and her self. When Zeus was with Hera they made a god of fire which was a very ugly child to them, zeus throw him out of heaven and in to the growing maze which grows and if you step in to it the time go’s faster and the distance you walk like two miles it will be half way around the world. (It is said that the great god pan was lost in their with some prehistoric animals not like dinosaurs). When you see an “A” sign only Half-gods or Demi-gods or gods can open it by pressing on it. So Hera got so angry that she wanted a monstrous thing and she called it Typhoon and it challenged Zeus to a battle. Zeus used his the master bolt (which is the most powerful weapon in the whole history which was forged by the Cyclopes) against typhoon and eventually won the battle. Then Zeus got really angry and chained Hera to mount Olympus. Hephaestus took revenge for himself and his mother he got an axe and split Zeus’s head in to half and out came Athena battle armour. Poseidon had a beautiful mermaid wife that had been lost and dolphin found her and gave the dolphin in mortal life (god like) and the mermaid and Poseidon made a merman son and called him Triton after his Trident. Hades the lord of the under world, one day a beautiful young teenage girl called Prosephone was the daughter of Demeter and she was with her friends playing and down below Hades fell in love with her but he didn’t know how so he went his brother Zeus for some advise and he said to kidnap her by a bunch of her most favourite most beautiful flowers with out Demeter knowing. So Zeus made a bunch of flowers underneath a trap to the under world and Hades will catch her and tell her to swallow a seed that she will come in the autumn because all the plants die until summer and Demeter was so up set that she asked every one were is she and until that an old man said that a door way to the under world opened and she fell into Hades arms. Demeter came rushing down the hall way to the under world and took Prosephone back to Olympus to complain to Zeus about the behaviour of Hades and the seed that he made Prosephone swallow to stay every four months in the Under world

greek mythology the begginig

the beginning of earth started of like this. The Titans the rulers of the cosmos before the gods them selves.when the earth was made the titans ruler Kronos went to see his prophesy if any thing is going to happen bad to him bad. The prophesy was that it was really bad that one of his sons would over throw him in and throw him in to Tartus. When he made his first child called Poseidon and then Kronos gulped him up whole then it was Hades and again the same thing gulped up at the end it was Zeus but his mother hid him in mount Olympus and the mountain nymphs took care of and when the time took place he gathered an army of cyclopes and hundred handed monster then went heading to his fathers head and thrown. The battle took ten years then when Zeus opened the stomach of Kronos and the two fully grown brothers came out. Then Zeus was the king of the gods and Zeus divided the earth between three kingdoms. Zeus got the sky, Poseidon got the seas and oceans and Hades got the under world. Then the gods started to mate the female Titan and made other gods.
